Rick was born and raised in Eden, South Dakota. Rick received a Bachelor of Science degree from South Dakota State University in 1981. He then attended law school at the University of South Dakota, graduating in 1984. Prior to joining the firm, Rick practiced in Brookings and Britton, and served as Chief Deputy Brown County States Attorney in Aberdeen. He is a former member of the National District Attorneys Association and is a current member of the Brown County Bar Association, State Bar of South Dakota, South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association and the American Bar Association. Rick is practicing primarily in the areas of estates, civil litigation, criminal law and family law.
